Lear Corporation, an American supplier of seats and electronic systems, is accelerating the restructuring of its operations in Iași, affecting hundreds of jobs. According to the spokesperson of AJOFM Iași, Adriana Sîrghie, initially 460 people were mentioned, but the exact number will be recalculated, considering that some employees have left voluntarily. The layoffs began in May and will take place in stages until autumn, against the backdrop of the decline of the European automotive industry and the global reorganization of the Lear group. The company, founded in 1917 under the name American Metal Products, has evolved over time, operating in 257 locations in 39 countries in 2017 and having approximately 173,000 employees in 2024. This restructuring reflects the challenges faced by the automotive industry and the company's strategy to adapt to new market conditions.
