Esmail Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, threatened Romania with an appropriate political and legal response following the country's decision to allow the United States to use military bases for refueling aircraft involved in missions in the Middle East.
Baghaei emphasized that such an action would constitute participation in military aggression against Iran and would attract Romania's international responsibility.
"If Romania makes its bases available to the United States, this would equate to participation in military aggression against Iran," Baghaei stated at a weekly press conference, according to Iran International.
He mentioned that this decision would negatively affect the traditional friendly relations between the Iranian and Romanian people. Additionally, Baghaei stated that Iran would respond quickly and appropriately both legally and politically.
Romania, under the protection of the missile defense shield at Deveselu, decided to allow the deployment of equipment and American troops, including tanker aircraft, to support operations in the Middle East. This decision was approved by the Supreme Council of National Defense and by Parliament.
The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, announced that three American tanker aircraft landed on Sunday, March 15, at Base 90 Otopeni, but that Romania was concerned "if they come with weapons, with explosives. The answer is no."
