Ioan Buzatu, the son of former liberal deputy Horațiu Buzatu, was sentenced by the Craiova Court of Appeal to 4 years in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, following the retrial of the case. Initially, Buzatu had fled to Belgium and did not return after an arrest warrant was issued, claiming that he was working and that his lawyer told him it was not necessary to come back. In the retrial, the forensic expertise confirmed the presence of psychoactive substances in his blood and their ability to impair driving. Buzatu had previously been convicted for drug possession and was under supervision.
