A high school in Iași has been ordered to pay 20,000 euros in damages to a student who suffered a collarbone fracture after being beaten by a classmate during a physical education class, an incident that occurred in March 2022. The court determined that the educational institution and the physical education teacher are responsible because the adolescents were not supervised at the time of the conflict.
During a basketball game, the two students began to argue, and one of them slammed the other to the ground, subsequently hitting him in the face with his fist. The victim suffered a collarbone fracture and required a long recovery period, thus affecting his plans to become a firefighter.
The victim's parents initially sought 100,000 euros in damages, but the court deemed the amount too high, setting the damages at 20,000 euros. The parents of the aggressor were exonerated from liability, as the court could not establish a connection between their education and the incident.
