Alexandru Rogobete, the Minister of Health, stated that real reform in the health sector in Romania depends on the reform of the National Health Insurance House (CNAS) and breaking its monopoly. He emphasized the importance of introducing private insurers and complementary insurance to bring additional funds into the health system. Regarding the health budget for 2026, Rogobete stated that it will not be less than that of 2025, without providing further details.
The minister also announced a draft law for the establishment of an innovation fund, which will be funded from various sources, including the state budget and contributions from the pharmaceutical industry. This fund will facilitate rapid access to innovative medicines, aiming to improve patient access to treatments. Rogobete mentioned that such a mechanism is already implemented in several European countries and could benefit both the government and the pharmaceutical industry.
