Sorin Grindeanu asked the Ministry of Finance to calculate the impact of a possible freeze on the gross minimum wage in the economy, which would remain at 4,050 lei, in order to limit budgetary pressures.
The business environment supports this measure due to economic difficulties.
Grindeanu confirmed discussions within the coalition but mentioned the concerns expressed at the European level regarding possible legal consequences.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan convened the Tripartite Council to discuss possible scenarios, and the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, emphasized that increasing the minimum wage is not recommended at this time.
In opposition, major trade union confederations are preparing a protest, arguing that freezing the minimum wage would deepen social inequalities and the crisis of purchasing power. Trade unionists are demanding a minimum wage correlated with the real cost of living.
