The employers' associations in Romania, represented by Sterică Fudulea, first vice-president of CNIPMMR, are asking the Government to freeze the minimum wage, arguing that an increase would put additional pressure on the private sector, already affected by tax increases. Fudulea emphasized that an increase of 300 lei would mean a 9% rise in labor costs, which could lead to layoffs and increased prices.
He also mentioned that there has not been a direct discussion with the Prime Minister on this topic and suggested that the Executive could find solutions that would protect both employees and the business environment, including by reducing the tax burden on labor. Currently, there is a conflict in the Government, with PSD wanting an increase in the minimum wage, while employers' associations oppose it. The coalition must decide whether the minimum wage will increase or not in 2026, considering the recent economic impact on companies.
