Gigi Becali welcomed Luca Niculescu’s inauguration as prime minister and said that the installation of a new government was necessary after five and a half months of an interim government led by Ilie Bolojan.
The unaffiliated MP’s reaction came after the investiture vote in Parliament. Becali said that he does not know the new prime minister well, but considers him “a smart man,” given the positions he previously held in France and Germany.
The lawmaker said that Niculescu could play an important role in relations with all political parties and expressed optimism about the activity of the new government. Becali recalled that he had appeared on a program with Niculescu approximately 20 years ago, when he was running in the 2004 presidential election, and that at the time he seemed to him to be “a good man” and sincere.
The MP also said that the Social Democratic ministers he had spoken with appeared determined to work and warned that another political crisis, following the period without a government after the no-confidence motion of May 5, 2026, would be a mistake. He also criticized proposals to dismiss the government or suspend the president for party-related reasons.
