The government led by Luca Niculescu received the investiture vote on Tuesday in a joint plenary session of Parliament, with 280 votes in favor. At least 233 votes were required for investiture, meaning that the new Executive secured a majority 47 votes above the legal threshold.
The vote brings an end to a government crisis that lasted approximately five and a half months, following the fall of the Bolojan Government. Luca Niculescu is the fourth prime minister nominated by President Nicușor Dan during this period.
After the result was announced, the prime minister stated that he had received the vote “with emotion and responsibility” and thanked the parliamentarians who supported the Government, including representatives of the PSD, PNL, UDMR, and national minorities. He noted that some of the parliamentarians who voted for the Executive had announced that they would remain in opposition.
Luca Niculescu said that the new Government would begin its work immediately. The first meeting of the Executive is scheduled for Tuesday evening. The composition of the Niculescu Government is to be presented next.
