RDP Craiova published on April 21, 2026 images of an impressive layer of snow on Transalpina, in full spring. The snow layer reaches almost the height of the snow removal equipment, and the removal work continues.

Road traffic is closed on the Rânca – Obârșia Lotrului sector, one of the most difficult mountain sections in Romania. Authorities warn drivers to respect the restrictions, as weather conditions make travel dangerous.

Cristi Tudor, a representative of DRDP Craiova, mentioned that the snow reaches 2-3 meters, and the work to prepare the route began last Thursday.

“We continue the snow removal work on DN 67C on the section between Rânca and Obârșia Lotrului, our colleagues have reached somewhere around kilometer 38, so four kilometers from the exit in Rânca. The snow is quite large, reaching about two meters, two meters and a bit, on the slope side the snow is definitely much larger, exceeding three meters, three and a half meters. We are working carefully to avoid displacing the snow from the slope area onto the roadway. The other colleagues have already started working on installing road signs, repairing the broken ones, installing pipes, reattaching the plates on the pipes, and checking the guardrail. At the moment we cannot estimate an opening date,” said Cristi Tudor.

Abundant snowfall has also been observed in other areas of the country, and meteorologists predict the continuation of mixed precipitation and snowfall at high altitudes. Temperatures will remain below normal for this period.
