A tourist from Germany who suffered an injury to her right ankle in the central area of the Retezat Massif was rescued by Hunedoara Mountain Rescue teams and evacuated by helicopter. The operation took place on Thursday after the woman was injured in the area upstream from Tăul Ghimpele and required medical attention.
Hunedoara Mountain Rescue announced that eight mountain rescuers took part in the rescue operation, traveling overland to the scene of the incident. They provided the tourist with first aid and prepared her for evacuation.
Following the mountain rescuers’ intervention, the woman was transported by air and taken to hospital for examinations and treatment. The operation ended after the victim was handed over to medical crews. The case highlights the difficulties of operations in mountainous areas, where ground access can be challenging and air evacuation is necessary for the rapid transport of injured people.
