Mountain rescuers from Prahova responded on Sunday at Omu Peak to provide first aid and evacuate an Israeli tourist who suffered a knee injury. The operation was under way at the time of the announcement.
The first-response team left from the Baba Mare Base, while a support team was prepared to intervene at the request of the rescuers who were expected to reach the tourist first. No information has so far been provided about the exact severity of the injury or how she will be transported from the mountainous area.
The intervention is taking place in difficult conditions after Salvamont Prahova warned that the weather at high altitudes could worsen. Snowfall, strong winds and fog are reducing visibility and making travel more difficult, including for experienced hikers.
Mountain rescuers advised tourists to check the forecast and trail conditions, avoid ridge areas and use suitable winter equipment. In an emergency, they recommend calling 112. Over the past 24 hours, mountain rescuers from Prahova have responded to three emergencies.
