A family of German tourists with two young children was searched for approximately five hours in the Poiana Ruscă Mountains, in Timiș County, after leaving on an ATV and failing to return to the cabin. A forester alerted the authorities, concerned that it was getting dark, it was raining, and temperatures were low.
Firefighters, police officers and volunteers began the search in the dark and in difficult weather conditions. The family was found approximately 25 kilometers away, at a campsite, where the tourists were sleeping in a tent. Everyone was safe.
The forester explained that he called 112 because the route is difficult and the ATV could have broken down. In addition, the family was traveling with two young children and could have lost phone signal or encountered problems because of the rain, fog and dangerous roads.
The German tourist told rescuers that it had been a misunderstanding. The family intended to camp in the mountains for four days and had food, water and the necessary equipment. He said he did not know that their absence would trigger a search operation and apologized.
