AUR President George Simion admitted during a program broadcast by TVR that he does not know what the sources of income are for Călin Georgescu, a former presidential candidate. The statement came after the journalist repeatedly asked him about the financial situation of the politician whom Simion says he supports.
Initially, the AUR leader avoided giving a direct answer and said that the question was “on a false track.” Simion then shifted the discussion to the PSD and Sorin Grindeanu, citing information that, according to his own statements, he had learned through lawyers who had consulted case files.
He referred to the case of a “box of money” found in the home of a former head of the Romanian Auto Registry and claimed that Sorin Grindeanu’s name appeared repeatedly in the investigation documents. Simion also said that he is the “only one” who still supports Georgescu because people voted for him.
After the moderator pressed him, George Simion replied that if he knew Călin Georgescu’s sources of income, he would say so, but that he did not have this information. Georgescu’s candidacy in the presidential election was at the center of public controversy, but in the televised statement Simion provided no further details about his income.
