George Simion said on Tuesday evening on TVR 1 that the party’s accounts contain no donations originating from Russia or suspicious expenses that escaped scrutiny by the authorities. The political leader said all financial operations are public and can be verified.
Simion said that last year, the Permanent Electoral Authority and the Court of Accounts carried out inspections at the party’s headquarters for 11 months, with an entire floor reportedly blocked off for the checks. He said he was convinced that any illegal donation or improperly incurred expense would have been identified by state institutions.
“We are waiting for everyone to come and inspect us,” George Simion said, referring to allegations of purported funding from Russia. He added that data concerning the party’s income and expenditure are published in the Official Gazette.
The political leader also reaffirmed his position on eliminating subsidies granted to political parties from the state budget. Simion said parties should give up public funding, while their expenses should remain transparent and verifiable.
