General Lucian Dumitru Marciu has been appointed as the general inspector of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) for a period of six months, starting from September 1, according to a decision signed by interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. Marciu replaces General Dan-Paul Iamandi, who led IGSU since 2017 and was retired on August 20.
Iamandi challenged his removal in court, citing political interference and the lack of prior notification regarding his reassignment. His lawyer argued that Iamandi did not have the opportunity to refuse the reassignment and that he was informed about it without a prior meeting. The legal advisor of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the move was necessary for carrying out missions that required Iamandi's experience, without affecting his salary rights.
Lucian Marciu was previously the head of the Brașov Emergency Situations Inspectorate since 2019.
