The Federation of Romanian Transport Operators (FORT), through its president Beniamin Lucescu, has requested the Parliament to amend Article 2, point 11 of Law no. 162/2026, which regulates the adjustment of the excise duty on fuels based on market developments and to introduce a control on the capping of the commercial markup. FORT emphasizes that the current law does not cap the commercial markup, allowing traders and distributors to set excessive prices. The organization has also requested the Competition Council to analyze prices and profit margins from the period of July 1 - August 1, 2026, considering a report that will be published soon. Transporters claim that, although the price of a barrel of oil has decreased, diesel prices in Romania have reached historic values, affecting the competitiveness of the economy.
The Ministry of Finance has announced a temporary 20% reduction in the excise duty on standard diesel, between August 16-31, 2026, in response to the increase in international prices.
