The former mayor of the Capital, Sorin Oprescu, was arrested near the airport in Thessaloniki, Greece, after being definitively sentenced to ten years and eight months in prison for corruption. The conviction came following acts of corruption related to receiving a bribe of 25,000 euros. Although he was wanted, he was arrested in Greece on May 17 and released on bail on May 31, with the Greek court rejecting Romania's extradition request.
