A fire occurred at the Iancului Square metro station in Bucharest, where smoke was reported, leading to the evacuation of passengers from the underground. Firefighters from the Bucharest-Ilfov Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISUBIF) were alerted and intervened to locate the source of the fire.
During the intervention, train traffic was halted, and the power supply was disconnected to allow firefighters to operate safely. No casualties or injuries were reported.
The intervention involved three fire-fighting vehicles and an SMURD ambulance. The fire was extinguished, caused by a malfunction in the electrical conduits in the tunnel, about 30 meters from the platform. Train traffic resumed at 16:25, and the station remained open during the intervention.
Metrorex confirmed that the situation has been resolved, and the ventilation system was activated to eliminate the smell of smoke. Authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure the safety of passengers.
