Sadu Mechanical Plant: one employee was injured in an explosion at a pyrotechnics workshop

An explosion occurred on Thursday in a workshop in the pyrotechnics area of the Sadu Mechanical Plant, Gorj County, during operations. A 54-year-old employee was injured, suffering first-degree burns and a fracture to his right leg.

According to plant representatives, the blast occurred at a hose installed to drain a precipitation vessel. Other employees were also in the workshop at the time of the explosion, but they were not injured. The blast was powerful enough to shatter a window in the building.

The victim was taken by medical crews and initially transported to the hospital in Bumbești. He was subsequently due to be transferred to the Târgu Jiu County Emergency Hospital for medical care.

The incident occurred in an area of the plant where production activities involving initiating explosives are carried out. The exact circumstances of the blast are yet to be established.
