The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, has been criticized for his statement that Romania has the highest energy prices in Europe, relative to purchasing power. He presented official data showing that Bucharest ranks 11th out of 33 European capitals, with an average price of 27.5 euro cents/kWh, higher than the EU average of 25.4 euro cents/kWh. When these prices are compared to the actual income of the population, Romania ranks first in Europe, meaning that Romanians pay the highest real price for energy.
