On July 9, 2026, at 01:30:18, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.4 occurred in the seismic area of Vrancea, at a depth of 124.5 km.
The tremor was felt near the cities of Focșani, Buzău, Sfântu Gheorghe, Brașov, Ploiești, and Bârlad.
According to the National Institute of Earth Physics (INFP), this earthquake is one of the most recent in a series of seismic activities in Vrancea.
Gheorghe Mărmureanu, a recognized expert in the field, stated that there are no reasons for concern regarding a major earthquake in the coming years. He emphasized that Romania will experience minor earthquakes until the end of 2026, and strong earthquakes are rare, occurring at intervals of about 100 years. Mărmureanu assured the population that, although Vrancea is active, there is no danger of a devastating earthquake in the near future.
