Two earthquakes occurred Sunday morning, 20 minutes apart, in the Vrancea seismic zone, according to the National Research and Development Institute for Earth Physics (INFP). The earthquakes were low-magnitude events and occurred at depths of more than 100 kilometers.
The first earthquake was recorded at 05:45:28 in Vrancea County. It had a magnitude of 2.5 and occurred at a depth of 108.1 kilometers. The epicenter was located 39 kilometers south of Focșani, 52 kilometers south of Buzău and 76 kilometers east of Sfântu-Gheorghe.
At 06:05:18, a second earthquake was reported in the Vrancea seismic zone, in Buzău County. It had a magnitude of 3.1 and occurred at a depth of 114.6 kilometers. The earthquake had its epicenter 51 kilometers south of Buzău and 59 kilometers south of Focșani.
On Saturday, October 3, two other earthquakes were recorded in Vrancea. The strongest earthquake recently reported in the area occurred on September 6, 2026, in Buzău County, with a magnitude of 4.1 and a depth of 149.6 kilometers.
Vrancea is Romania’s main seismic region, known for intermediate-depth earthquakes that can be felt across wide areas.
