A driving instructor in Giurgiu was fined and had his driving licence suspended after police discovered that the student at the wheel had consumed alcohol. The incident took place on Sunday, on Dudului Street in the municipality of Giurgiu, during a practical lesson for obtaining a driving licence.
Police stopped a driving school vehicle for inspection. At the wheel was a 43-year-old student, accompanied by his 45-year-old driving instructor. The student was tested with a breathalyser, which indicated 0.23 mg/l of pure alcohol in the exhaled air.
According to the Giurgiu County Police Inspectorate, the sanctions were imposed on the driving instructor. He was fined nearly 2,000 lei and had his driving licence suspended for 90 days.
Police point out that, during practical training lessons conducted on public roads, the instructor is legally responsible for the vehicle’s movement. The student was at the wheel, but legal responsibility for driving the car rested with the instructor.
