A 49-year-old driver was caught drunk at the wheel on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in the town of Baldovinești, Brăila County, while transporting seven children to a kindergarten. The breathalyzer indicated 0.34 mg/l of pure alcohol in the exhaled air.
Officers from the Brăila Road Traffic Service stopped the minibus at around 08:13, as part of actions carried out to inspect school transport at the beginning of the school year. The driver, from the commune of Vădeni, was fined for a contravention, and his driving licence was confiscated pending suspension of his right to drive.
The incident took place during the period from September 7 to 30, when police officers inspect vehicles intended for transporting students and carry out actions to prevent accidents and improve traffic flow.
The Police warn that alcohol at the wheel increases the risk of tragedies occurring, and the responsibility is all the greater in the case of school transport. Two days earlier, in Timiș County, another minibus driver who was transporting 14 students had been caught drunk and fined.
