A drunk, unlicensed driver fled from police and drove onto the beach in Saturn

A 26-year-old man was chased and stopped by police in Mangalia after refusing to pull over when signaled by officers and driving onto the beach in the resort of Saturn. The incident took place on Friday evening, on DN 39, and the driver was subsequently found to have 0.80 mg/l of pure alcohol in his exhaled breath.

Mangalia police began pursuing the vehicle after the driver failed to obey the lawful stop signal. During the pursuit, he turned toward Saturn and drove directly onto the beach. In an attempt to escape, the driver made a U-turn using the handbrake, then accelerated aggressively toward Lavrion Street.

Following a coordinated operation, police intercepted the vehicle and safely stopped it on M.I. Dobrogeanu Street in Mangalia. The man was taken to hospital for biological sample collection to establish his blood alcohol level.

Checks showed that he did not hold a driving license. The driver was detained for 24 hours and is to be brought before the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Mangalia District Court for a preventive measure to be ordered.
