Diana Stoica, leader of the USR deputies and chair of the Chamber of Deputies’ Committee for European Affairs, reshared in a committee group a homophobic-tinged message, according to a screenshot obtained by Cotidianul. The message was sent together with the decisions of the Joint Permanent Bureaus concerning the government proposed by Luca Niculescu.
The screenshot shows the question: “Why do we have more gay people than women in the Romanian government?” The proposed executive includes two women: Natalia Intotero, nominated for the Ministry of the Environment, and Ioana Ciocan, proposed for the Ministry of Culture. No politician in this lineup has publicly acknowledged belonging to the LGBTQ+ community.
LGBTQ+ rights organizations consider such jokes to be microaggressions that contribute to stigmatization. The message was reportedly not written by Stoica, but reshared by her on WhatsApp. The deputy was contacted for an explanation but had not responded by the time the article was published.
