USR MP Diana Stoica stated Friday evening, on Digi24, that the message containing the wording “why do we have more gay people than women in the Government of Romania?” was accidentally forwarded to the group of the Chamber of Deputies’ Committee for European Affairs, which she chairs.
Stoica explained that she sent the message along with other materials concerning the committee’s activities for the following week. The MP maintained that the text did not belong to her and that she had nothing against anyone’s private life.
The message shared on the committee group sparked a debate on social media, being considered homophobic. In her response, Diana Stoica stated that USR supports the rights and freedoms of all people, as well as the introduction of civil partnerships, a position the party has promoted for several years.
“It was simply a mistake,” the MP stated, adding that she would pay more attention to the messages she forwards in the future. The case emerged after the message was sent along with documents intended for the activities of the Committee for European Affairs.
