Diana Stoica, leader of the USR deputies, has asked the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Gendarmerie to send her documents concerning Lucian Pahonțu’s activity in the Security Troops between December 1989 and June 1990, as well as information about their classification status. The lawmaker is also calling for the documents to be declassified.
The request comes after the press reported the existence of documents concerning the activity of the current director of the Protection and Guard Service. USR says that the Romanian Gendarmerie refused to respond to requests submitted by Recorder and HotNews under Law 544, citing the fact that the documents are classified as “official secret.”
Diana Stoica is requesting certified copies of the orders, reports, notes, statements, action logs and registers from the archival holdings of military unit 0305 Băneasa. She is also asking for the complete list of documents, including their identification details, classification level and the results of the latest reassessment.
The lawmaker asks whether the Gendarmerie’s inspector general will initiate the declassification procedure and who determined that the documents attest to Pahonțu carrying out his activity “under lawful conditions.” USR has also called for the SPP director to be heard by the parliamentary defense committees, with part of the hearings open to the press.
