Member of the European Parliament Diana Șoșoacă was present at an emergency meeting of the Local Council in Sânmihaiu Român, Timiș County, in the context of the case of a 13-year-old minor accused of the murder of Alin Mario Berinde. Following discussions, it was decided that the minor would not be enrolled in school in the community, and the parents would not receive residency documents.
Tension has risen in the locality, with locals protesting for the adolescent to face criminal charges. Șoșoacă criticized the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection for negligence, suggesting that the minor may have serious psychological issues caused by family abuse. She also proposed lowering the age of criminal responsibility to 10 years, emphasizing that the problem is not age, but the system and politics in Romania. Stating that changing the political class is essential, Șoșoacă highlighted that many of those who lead the country contribute to such tragedies.
