Diana Șoșoacă came to Cotroceni Palace on Monday, dressed in black, for the consultations convened by President Nicușor Dan with a view to appointing a new candidate for the position of prime minister. The meeting takes place after Siegfried Mureșan, the third prime minister-designate in the past five months, failed to secure the investiture vote in Parliament.
The delegation of the S.O.S. România party was scheduled for 17:00. Before the talks, Diana Șoșoacă posted messages on Facebook in which she associated the consultations with the two-year anniversary of the Constitutional Court’s decision that blocked her candidacy in the 2024 presidential election.
“Democracy is dead! Long live the queen!” wrote the leader of S.O.S. România in a post that also referred to a possible “elimination” from the political game. In another message, she spoke of “national mourning” for democracy.
On October 5, 2024, the CCR upheld, by majority vote, the appeals filed against her candidacy and annulled the decision of the BEC by which it had been registered. Monday’s consultations represent a new attempt to identify a political formula for forming the Government.
