On Saturday evening, a violent fire broke out at Admiral Dan Zaharia's villa in the commune of Stoenești, Argeș County, a building of historical and architectural value. The fire was extinguished around 2:00 AM, after several hours of intervention by firefighters, who found that there were no casualties. The flames severely damaged the interior of the villa, which was decommissioned, destroying the roof, the ceilings of the upper floor and the ground floor, as well as the doors and hardware.
According to ISU Argeș, the fire was most likely caused by an open flame in enclosed spaces. The villa, built in the 1920s, was nationalized during the communist period and has suffered significant degradation over time, without being restored after 1990.
