Deputy Sebastian Burduja, former Minister of Energy, has launched the national petition 'Hydropower Saves Romania', which calls for the urgent unblocking of hydropower plants that are in advanced stages of execution. Burduja emphasizes that Romania has hydropower plants completed between 55% and 98%, which do not produce energy due to administrative and legal blockages. Among the mentioned projects are the Bumbești-Livezeni hydropower development and the Răstolița hydropower plant. The petition requests the exemption of these hydropower plants from environmental assessments and the adoption of a special law to declare them national security objectives. Burduja states that the completion of these projects could bring 700 MW of flexible capacity, reducing energy imports by 20-30%, and warns that their non-completion could be considered an act of sabotage. Those interested can support the initiative by signing the petition.
