Daciana Sârbu accused Oana Ţoiu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, of intervening to prevent the boarding of her daughter, Irina Ponta, on a repatriation flight from the United Arab Emirates. Irina, who was in Dubai for an academic interview, was stopped from getting on a bus that was heading to the airport, and Daciana claims that the intervention was motivated by an "image problem."

Daciana described the dramatic moments her family went through, mentioning that Irina was registered as an unaccompanied minor at the consulate. Victor Ponta's ex-wife announced that she would file a criminal complaint against Oana Ţoiu, emphasizing that her daughter was not to blame.

"Mrs. Ţoiu is not fighting with Ponta, she is fighting with Daciana Sârbu. I called my child and heard her crying. I felt that it was maddening. 'It's an image vulnerability and she cannot get on that plane,' that’s what I was told. I started this scandal because my child is not to blame for her name. Since Saturday, I have made thousands of calls - to the consulate, to friends, to travel agencies - to find a way for her to leave somehow. She has been there since Thursday. She was supposed to leave on Sunday, and on Saturday the war started. Since then, I have been trying to find a way for her to leave. I waited for something to happen, to put her on a commercial flight. I called, like everyone else, to the consulate, to try to find out how we could get the child out of the country. I didn't stomp my feet: 'She needs to get on a flight now!' I did what any desperate parent would do." Dacia Sârbu recounted.
