Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu condemned on Sunday the violence committed against Palestinian communities in the West Bank and called for those responsible to be held accountable. The reaction comes after a recent incident in which, according to the head of Romanian diplomacy, members of the diplomatic staff from Belgium, France, and Poland were also affected.

In a message published on the X platform, Oana Țoiu described the acts of violence as “unacceptable” and expressed her solidarity with all those affected. The minister emphasized that settler violence against Palestinian communities has long been a cause for “extreme concern.”

Țoiu called for statements by the Israeli authorities to be followed by appropriate investigations both into the most recent incident and into other similar acts. She reiterated Romania’s position that Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories are illegal under international law and constitute an obstacle to peace.

Bucharest’s reaction broadens the focus from the incident involving European diplomats to the wider issue of violence against Palestinian communities in the West Bank.
