Cristian Tudor Popescu puts forward a hypothesis about Călin Georgescu’s arrest and the interests of PSD and AUR

Cristian Tudor Popescu claims that Călin Georgescu’s arrest may be the result of converging interests between PSD and AUR, saying that it would benefit both parties for him to end up in prison.

In the journalist’s view, the Social Democrats would thus get rid of an inconvenient political opponent, while George Simion could try to attract Georgescu’s electorate. CTP believes that AUR could organize protests in support of the former candidate’s supporters, so that they would later turn toward the party led by Simion.

Cristian Tudor Popescu also stated that George Simion deeply despises Călin Georgescu and considers him “crazy.” The statements represent the journalist’s political interpretation and do not constitute confirmation that an agreement exists between PSD and AUR.

CTP also criticized the timing of the authorities’ intervention, arguing that legal measures against Georgescu should have been taken earlier, amid allegations concerning an alleged attempted coup and the promotion of Legionary propaganda.
