An investigation by prosecutors targets 33 employees of CFR Călători, suspected of fraud by blocking seats in sleeping cars and couchettes, using the personal identification numbers of students who benefit from free railway transport. These seats would have been subsequently resold, and the money would have been collected directly, without issuing tickets. The file compiled by prosecutors has over 700 pages and was initiated after an article published by Club Feroviar in March 2024. During the hearings, some employees reportedly resorted to artificial intelligence to build their defense. It is important to mention that the majority of CFR Călători employees conduct their activities correctly, and the investigation exclusively targets those involved in this case. Discussions held by employees on the ChatGPT application suggest that they were trying to contest the damage caused to the company. The searches took place on March 25, 2025.
