Supporters of Călin Georgescu protest outside the DIICOT headquarters before his questioning

Several supporters of Călin Georgescu gathered outside the DIICOT headquarters in Bucharest, before he was brought in for questioning in a fraud case involving estimated damages of over 1.1 million euros.

The protesters chanted “Justice, not corruption!”, “Călin Georgescu is president!” and “Freedom for Călin.” Among the participants was also Cezar Cătălin Avrămuță, known as the “Dacian Standard-Bearer.” Gendarmes installed barriers to control the crowd upon Georgescu’s arrival.

Călin Georgescu was taken in by DIICOT prosecutors on Monday morning and taken to his home in Mogoșoaia, where searches are being conducted. He was reportedly intercepted in traffic in Otopeni while heading to a gym.

According to information in the case file, Georgescu is suspected of having coordinated a group that allegedly operated in Romania and the United Kingdom to obtain money from businesspeople. The victims were allegedly lured with promises of access to substantial bank financing. The information was later confirmed by businessman Răzvan Leu, identified as a victim in the case.
