Călin Georgescu will learn on Monday whether he will be released from pre-trial detention after asking the Bucharest Tribunal to replace the measure with a more lenient one. The hearing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m., and the judges will examine the request submitted by the former presidential candidate.
Georgescu could request house arrest or judicial supervision. He has been in pre-trial detention since September 29, and an earlier appeal against the measure was rejected.
The former candidate will be taken from the Capital’s Central Detention Center to court for the hearing of his request. The Bucharest Tribunal’s decision will determine whether he remains in detention or whether the measure will be replaced.
Meanwhile, Călin Georgescu’s supporters continue to protest outside the Central Detention Center, where they have set up tents, chant his name and demand his release. The Bucharest Gendarmerie announced that, since his imprisonment, it has issued 124 fines totaling more than 100,000 lei for disturbing public order and peace.
