A supporter of Călin Georgescu accused of assaulting two cameramen outside the DIICOT headquarters in Bucharest has been placed under judicial supervision for 60 days, according to the Bucharest Police press office. The incident took place on Monday in Sector 3, where the man had come in the context of hearings involving Georgescu’s father-in-law.
The court imposed several restrictions for the duration of the preventive measure, including a ban on participating in public gatherings. The investigation continues into assault or other acts of violence, threats, and disturbing public order and peace, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Sector 3 District Court.
Bucharest Police were notified on October 5 about the assault of two media representatives. Initial checks indicated that they had allegedly been intentionally struck with a metal object. Police identified a 50-year-old man, who was taken to Police Station 10 by a team of gendarmes for questioning and to clarify the circumstances.
Bucharest Police strongly condemned the assaults against journalists and stressed that the safety of media representatives and freedom of expression must be respected. The facts remain under investigation.
