The former independent candidate in the presidential elections, Călin Georgescu, has paid the fine of 200,000 lei imposed by the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) for irregularities in the financing of his electoral campaign for 2024.
The president of AEP, Adrian Țuțuianu, confirmed the information, mentioning that the money will be directed to the state budget. AEP has imposed total fines of over 1.6 million lei and confiscated 19.5 million lei following controls over the financing of parties and electoral campaigns.
Georgescu was sanctioned for several violations, including the source of funds and failure to comply with reporting obligations. In total, he received fines of 200,000 lei, divided into several contraventions, including irregularities related to expenses, electoral materials, and reporting deadlines. AEP has notified the Police and the General Prosecutor's Office regarding these irregularities.
