Călin Georgescu was present on Tuesday at the Court of Sector 1 for a hearing in his trial, in which he is accused of legionary propaganda. The trial is at the preliminary chamber stage, and his lawyers raised exceptions to request the case to be sent back to the Prosecutor's Office, arguing that there are sufficient grounds for such a solution.
Georgescu stated that the accusations against him concern freedom of expression, which he considers a humiliation for the Romanian people. He emphasized the importance of supporting justice and warned that any limitation of freedom of expression can lead to dictatorship. The former presidential candidate was sent to trial on July 2, being accused of promoting the cult of individuals guilty of genocide and of fascist, legionary, racist, or xenophobic ideologies.
