Starting August 1, Bulgaria will increase the price of vignettes for all categories of cars by approximately 30%, marking the first tax increase since the introduction of the electronic vignette system in 2019.

The new rates, which will come into effect in August, the busiest month for vacations, will include an annual vignette of nearly 65 euros, compared to 50 euros currently, a quarterly vignette of nearly 36 euros, up from 28 euros, and a monthly vignette of nearly 20 euros, instead of 15 euros.

Additionally, the weekly vignette will cost 10 euros, and the weekend vignette will cost 6.6 euros.

The Bulgarian government justifies the increase by the need to modernize the road infrastructure, considering that over 7,000 kilometers of national roads are in poor condition. Authorities estimate additional revenues of over 22 million euros by 2026 and 54 million euros annually in the following years. Travelers are advised to purchase the vignette only from official websites to avoid scams.
