Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan emphasized, in Oradea, the importance of completing the Iernut power plant, which has been under construction for about 10 years and is over 90% complete.
Bolojan mentioned that Romgaz has committed to finalize the project by the end of the year, considering the difficulty of explaining to citizens a plant under construction for a decade. He also highlighted the need to support other production capacities, such as the energy group at Mintia. The Prime Minister acknowledged that Romania will continue to import energy until the new capacities are completed, but expressed hope that once they are operational, the country could become an energy exporter again.
Bolojan highlighted the importance of a clear schedule of measures within the Energy Pact and stressed that issues in the sector require investments and appropriate regulations. Among the priorities, the Prime Minister mentioned the development of storage capacities and band energy production, as well as the importance of nuclear energy.
He proposed that the connection of photovoltaic installations be conditioned on the installation of storage batteries to reduce the volatility of the energy system.
