The General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) reported a significant decrease in asylum applications in Romania in 2025, with 1,200 applications registered, compared to 2,465 in 2024, representing a reduction of 51.3%. The majority of applications were submitted by citizens from Syria (300) and Iraq (110). Of the registered applications, 72.9% (875) were submitted to IGI, while 26.5% (318) were submitted to the border police. The Regional Center for Procedures and Accommodation for Asylum Seekers in Bucharest received the most applications, with 426 registrations, accounting for 48.7% of the total IGI applications and 35.5% of the national total.
