In the commune of Cristești, Mureș County, a cemetery from the early Roman Era was discovered, containing approximately 30 graves, including a mass grave with 20 children. The preventive archaeological research was conducted before the land was prepared for a gravel pit. The graves, some with rich inventory, suggest a population of medium status. Archaeologists suspect that an epidemic may have caused the death of the children. The findings include burial and cremation graves, dating from the 2nd-3rd centuries, and a coin issued in 114 AD indicates the beginnings of the province. Although the existence of the Roman Fort at Cristești is known, it has not yet been identified on the ground. The discovered cemetery is a first for Mureș County, providing a unique opportunity to understand the life and funeral rituals of the population at that time. The research began on February 15 and will continue for at least two months, with the active involvement of the gravel pit owner.
