The legal department of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) has reported to the DNA, accusing a premeditated loss in the case against Nova Power&Gas, which involved a fine of 100 million lei. Internal sources suggest that this failure could create a dangerous precedent for other litigations, with potential damages amounting to hundreds of millions of euros that would need to be covered by the state budget.
ANRE sued Nova Power&Gas for manipulating the energy market, but the case was definitively lost in the fall of 2025, after the Court of Appeal initially suspended the trial. ANRE's jurists contest the defense strategy imposed by management, considering it contrary to the institution's interests. Losing this case could severely affect the stability of the energy market and could lead to losses in another 26 similar cases. Nova Power&Gas, owned by the Mureșan brothers, is also involved in real estate, owning land in Dâmbovița County, where the construction of small nuclear reactors is planned.
