AnimaWings is gradually grounding its Airbus A220-300 aircraft / The company cites technical problems and announces canceled flights

AnimaWings, an airline with majority Romanian ownership, has decided to gradually suspend operations of its Airbus A220-300 aircraft starting September 29, 2026, after identifying recurring technical problems. The measure affects several flights, including services scheduled to depart from Cluj Airport, with some cancellations announced for October.

Information about the temporary withdrawal from service of a significant part of the fleet initially appeared on the BoardingPass platform. According to G4Media, the aircraft in question are the recently acquired A220-300s, for which there are also suspicions regarding lease payments. AnimaWings, however, denies that the decision was imposed by leasing companies and says the grounding was decided internally.

The company says the Airbus A220-300 aircraft have experienced repeated periods of unavailability, including some units delivered less than three months ago. AnimaWings claims that similar problems have also been encountered by other European operators using this type of aircraft.

Cluj Airport Director David Ciceo confirmed the cancellation of some flights and pointed to “commercial issues,” including low occupancy on certain routes. The company says it will try to operate the flights using its other available aircraft, offering affected passengers rescheduling or a full refund, depending on the situation. Flights and schedules are being continuously reassessed.
