The LAPAR Federation, the Romanian Plant Patronage, and the Romalimenta Federation have requested the Parliament and the Government to revise the draft law for the National Strategy and Action Plan for Biodiversity Conservation 2026-2030, considering that the current form may impose restrictions on agricultural land and activities related to the cultivation of medicinal plants.
Although they support biodiversity conservation, the three organizations emphasize the need to respect the principles of economic equity and dialogue with the affected sectors. They call for an economic impact assessment before the law is adopted and for the guarantee of compensation for the imposed restrictions. The organizations also propose avoiding additional environmental requirements and developing a National Strategy for Medicinal Plants.
The president of LAPAR, Matei Titianu, stated that protecting biodiversity should not be achieved by transferring costs onto farmers. Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced the withdrawal of the government decision to avoid its suspension.
