After Rareș Bogdan, Sorin Grindeanu also asks Ilie Bolojan to talk to the farmers: “Come out from behind the curtains at the Government!”

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu asked dismissed Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Tuesday to engage in direct dialogue with representatives of the protesting farmers in Victory Square, in order to prevent an escalation of the violence. Grindeanu argues that discussions are the only solution for defusing the situation and asks the prime minister not to limit himself to formally taking over the grievances.

Several hundred farmers from across the country gathered in the capital before 10:00 a.m. to demand solutions to the problems in agriculture and accuse the authorities of blocking exports. Around 11:30 a.m., several participants shoved gendarmes and threw bottles and other objects at the security forces.

The violence broke out again around 3:00 p.m., when a group of demonstrators broke through the gendarmes' cordons. The Gendarmerie announced that it had removed several aggressive individuals accused of inciting violence.

Grindeanu stated that the initially peaceful protest was being hijacked by extremist forces and asked Bolojan to take measures to reduce tensions. For his part, MEP Rareș Bogdan told the prime minister to leave his office and talk to the protesters.
